Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised...

God Will Try Your Heart

Back in the eighties, the Lord was teaching me to obey him and I was struggling for money. I certainly didn’t want to offend the Lord, and I knew the Lord put me in the ministry, so I said to him, “If you can’t afford this ministry I will loan you some money,” and I put $7000 on my credit card that I borrowed, and let me tell you, he quickly started giving me money.

During those years in the eighties, a man’s house was being foreclosed on and I was told it was going to be sold on the courthouse steps at 10:00 in the morning.

They needed $27,000 and I didn’t have that kind of money. I went to the bank and talked to a man who I had been friends with for years and told him I needed to borrow $27,000.

“What for?” he asked. I told him the story and when I finished he said, “I’m not interested in doing that.”

“Well I am,” I said. We had been friends a long time and I said, “You’ve got to do this, this is the Lord’s business.” He knew me as a veterinarian, not as a preacher. Finally he said, “Write out what you’ve got for collateral.”

I did and he said, “That’s stuff’s not worth that much.”

“How do you know how much it’s worth?” was my reply. We did not have a friendly discussion. Finally, he said, “Alright, I’m going to loan you the money, but your collateral is not worth that much.”

I took the money to the judge’s office that was selling the property and when I arrived he was just putting on his hat, getting ready to go to the courthouse. “Aren’t you Dr. Davidson?” he asked.

“Yes.

“You know, you’re doing something way above your call of duty.

I said, “No sir, the Lord is doing this. Here’s the money.” It stopped the foreclosure and this is where the story gets interesting.

I began paying on the note at the bank and it was slow. I would get a $1000 and I would take it to the bank. I’d get another $1000 and I would take it to the bank. I had made three or four payments when the Lord said to me, “Give him the money.” I didn’t have $27,000 to just give away but I told the man that owned the house what the Lord said and of course he didn’t refuse.

It tells us in Luke 6:35:

35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

And the money began to come and it came quickly—instead of a $1000 at a time, I was getting $3000 to $4000 and I would take it to the bank and pay on the note. A woman at the bank said to me, “Dr. Davidson, I’ve known you a long time and I’ve never seen you get money so fast.” Within just a few days I had re-payed the entire note.

Verse 38 in Luke 6 says:

38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

With this experience, the Lord showed me how bold he wanted me to be toward man and God. He was making an intercessor out of me.

God bless,
