Fruit that Remains

Following the sale of my veterinary practice, I was living in Springfield, Missouri for a time. My daughter Kathy was finishing her junior year in high school in McKinney, Texas and her and Patti, my wife, would come to Springfield on the weekends, or I would drive to Texas. In May 1970, my sister had car trouble one day enroute home to Tennessee from Sarcoxie and called asking for assistance. After picking her up we returned to my house and talked and before she left, we prayed together. That day I felt like I was about to burst.  The next day I was sitting on my couch and I asked the Lord, “Who do I get with and who do I follow?”  I picked my bible up and it opened to John 15 and I began to read:

1) I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandmen.

2) Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3) Now you are clean through the words I have spoken unto you.

4) Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5) I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6) If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7) If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8) Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

Well I knew a true vine produces after what it is and common sense told me the branches would be what the plant is. I knew that a husbandman is a farmer who tills the soil; therefore the Father was the farmer. Every branch that is in Christ that doesn’t bring forth fruit, the Father will take it away or in other words, if a person in the body of Christ doesn’t bring forth fruit, God will take you out of Christ. Every branch that bringeth forth fruit, he purgeth it that it would bring forth more fruit, and I was familiar with the word purge. I had administered castor oil and mineral oil to newborn foals to purge their systems and I knew that purging could be very painful. God was giving me a little enlightenment about what was ahead for me-my heart was going to have to go through some purging. I could see that God was after fruit, because it says fruit is what glorifies God.

As I was considering these scriptures God gave me a vision of a vine, and I saw it was a watermelon vine with watermelon fruit. But then I saw one of the watermelon change to a cantaloupe, one to a cucumber, and one to a strawberry. I thought, “What an odd vine, what is this”? And as I sat there I knew God was showing me, Catholic, Methodist, Baptist and saying, “Denominations are not of me.”

That was the first vision I ever had and after it, until 1974, God led me, taught me, corrected me, delivered me, and then He ministered to me by the Spirit, John 15:13-16;

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

I could see in verse 16 that God was after fruit and that the fruit would remain.  God then led me in 1980 to start Water of Life Ministries. In 1981 He directed me to go on radio, 1983 to begin the Bible Training School.  In 1984 God sent me to Israel and then Zimbabwe in 1985. I was directed to go on television also in 1984, then on national television, satellite, and international short wave in 1992.  God led me to begin the crusades in 1994 and flying corporate charter in 1996.  At the instruction of God in 2003 and 2004 I flew to the 48 states on the mainland and prayed.

Then in 2004 the power of darkness hit my ministry and that darkness took people that walked with me for years out of my life.  Their problem was unbelief.  Not until the death of Terry Mai in January 2009 did I see fruit emerging that would remain and walk with me.
